Accuracy

Is color analysis accurate?

Color analysis is accurate enough to be useful when it is done in daylight on your natural coloring: it reliably separates warm from cool and light from deep, and good analysts and photo reports usually agree on the season family. It is less precise at the borders between neighbouring seasons, and lighting, makeup and dyed hair are the main causes of wrong results. Treat it as a well-reasoned starting point and confirm it in a mirror.

Where color analysis results differ

The 12 seasons are a model, not biology. People sit on a spectrum, so someone near the border between Soft Summer and Soft Autumn can be typed either way by two careful analysts. That is not a failure: neighbouring seasons share a large part of their palettes, which is why good reports name a runner-up.

Different systems also disagree by design. A 4-season system cannot express "soft and cool", so a Soft Summer may be called Summer by one and Autumn by another. A 16-season system draws finer lines than a 12-season one.

How accurate are the different methods?

In-person draping is the reference because the analyst sees you in real light, but it depends on the analyst and the room. Quizzes are only as good as your answers. AI from a photo is consistent and explains its reasoning, but only sees what the camera sees. General chatbots vary between runs. The practical approach is to use two methods and look for agreement: for example the free color analysis test plus an AI photo report, then a mirror check with the colors both suggest.

Check your color analysis result yourself

  1. 1

    Pick two colors

One from your season and one from the season you doubt, same type of fabric.

  2. 2

Hold them under your chin in daylight

One at a time, without makeup, with a photo of each.

  3. 3

    Compare the photos

The right color evens your skin and brightens your eyes; the wrong one adds shadows or redness.

How to get the most accurate color analysis

  • Use daylight from a window for any color analysis, in person or online.
  • Start without makeup, with a white or grey top, and with dyed hair covered.
  • Use two methods and look for agreement on your color season.
  • Trust the color comparison, not the color you like: compare two at a time.
  • Write down the runner-up: if two color seasons stay close, wear the colors they share.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Is color analysis scientific?

It is built on real color theory (hue, value, chroma) but the seasons themselves are a styling model, not a scientific classification. Its value is practical: it narrows down colors that flatter you.

Why did two analysts give me different seasons?

Usually because you sit near a border, the light differed, or they use different systems. If the two seasons are neighbours, wear the colors they share.

Is AI color analysis as accurate as a human?

In good light it usually agrees on the family and often the season. A human sees you in real light; AI is faster, cheaper and shows its reasoning. Use both if you are unsure.
